JANG Chaelin | 장채린

장채린(1999~)은 유리를 매개로 빛과 지각의 관계를 탐구하는 작가이다.
특히 비대칭 다면체 구조를 중심으로, 빛이 유리를 통과하며 발생하는 반사와 굴절의 효과를 통해 시각적 경험이 어떻게 변화하는지를 탐색한다.

작가는 전통적인 대칭적 형태에서 벗어나, 각기 다른 각도와 면을 가진 구조를 설계함으로써 빛의 경로를 다층적으로 분산시키고, 고정된 형상이 아닌 ‘변화하는 이미지’를 만들어낸다. 이러한 작업은 관람자의 위치, 빛의 방향과 강도, 시간의 흐름에 따라 끊임없이 달라지는 시지각적 경험을 유도한다.

장채린의 작업은 유리를 단순히 투명한 물질로 다루는 것이 아니라, 빛과 상호작용하며 감각을 변화시키는 ‘지각의 매개체’로 확장한다. 이를 통해 대상은 하나의 고정된 형태로 존재하기보다, 빛 속에서 끊임없이 재구성되는 상태로 인식된다.

Chaelin Jang is an artist who explores the relationship between light and perception through glass.
Her work focuses on asymmetrical polyhedral structures, investigating how reflection and refraction alter visual experience as light passes through the material.

Moving away from conventional symmetrical forms, Jang constructs geometries composed of varied angles and planes, allowing light to disperse in complex ways. This results in images that are not fixed, but continuously shifting depending on the viewer’s position, the direction and intensity of light, and the passage of time.

Rather than treating glass as a passive transparent medium, she approaches it as an active interface that mediates perception. In her work, objects are not perceived as stable forms, but as phenomena that are constantly reconfigured within light.
