UM GALLERY is a Seoul-based gallery that revisits the historical trajectories of Korean contemporary art while engaging with new practices and perspectives in contemporary art today.
The gallery builds upon a history of exhibitions and long-standing relationships with artists that extends back to Moosim Gallery, founded in Cheongju. Rather than simply preserving this legacy, UM GALLERY approaches it as a living history—one to be reconsidered, recontextualized, and expanded through the perspective of the present.
A central focus of the gallery’s program is the rediscovery of artists and bodies of work that have made meaningful contributions to the development of Korean contemporary art, yet have remained underrepresented in art-historical and international discourse. Through research, exhibitions, and critical engagement with existing works and archival materials, the gallery seeks to reposition these practices within contemporary discourse and open them to new readings.
Alongside this research-driven approach, UM GALLERY works closely with contemporary artists across generations, nationalities, and media who are developing distinct artistic languages. Through long-term collaboration, the gallery supports the development of new works, exhibitions, and practices.
Through exhibitions, research, publications, international art fairs, and collaborations with institutions and curators, UM GALLERY connects its artists and their practices to broader contexts. Rather than treating past and present as separate territories, the gallery seeks to build new relationships between them, contributing new perspectives on Korean contemporary art within the wider field of international contemporary art.
UM GALLERY는 한국 현대미술의 역사적 맥락을 다시 살피는 동시에 새로운 동시대 미술의 가능성을 제시하는 서울 기반의 갤러리입니다.
갤러리의 기반에는 청주에서 시작된 무심갤러리 시기부터 축적되어 온 전시 경험과 한국 현대미술 작가들과의 관계가 자리하고 있습니다. UM GALLERY는 이러한 역사를 단순히 계승하는 데 머무르지 않고, 오늘의 관점에서 다시 읽고 확장하는 것을 프로그램의 중요한 방향으로 삼고 있습니다.
특히 한국 현대미술의 전개 과정에서 중요한 작업을 지속해왔음에도 충분히 조명받지 못한 작가와 작업을 발굴하고 재조명하는 데 주목합니다. 축적된 작품과 자료를 연구하고 새로운 전시와 비평적 맥락을 구축함으로써 이들의 작업을 다시 현재의 미술 담론 안에 위치시키고자 합니다.
동시에 세대와 국적, 매체의 경계를 넘어 독자적인 조형 언어를 구축하는 동시대 작가들과 장기적으로 협업하며 새로운 작업과 전시의 가능성을 함께 만들어갑니다.
UM GALLERY는 전시, 연구, 출판, 국내외 아트페어와 기관 및 기획자들과의 협업을 통해 작가의 작업을 보다 넓은 장으로 연결합니다. 과거와 현재 사이에서 발견되는 새로운 관계와 서사를 통해 한국 현대미술을 국제적인 동시대 미술의 장 안에서 지속적으로 확장해 나가고자 합니다.

Take Blue Bus 143, 362, 440, or 472, or Green Bus 3011, 4318, or 4412, and get off at the Sinsa Middle School bus stop. From there, walk approximately 5 minutes toward Garosu-gil.
Alternatively, take Blue Bus 145, 148, 441, or 542, or Green Bus 4212, and get off at the Sinsa Sageori (Garosu-gil) bus stop. From there, walk approximately 5–7 minutes toward Garosu-gil.

Visitors arriving by car may use the paid underground parking garage at the nearby Gangnam Healing Center (Sinsa).
